American Legion Post 162 of Hillsdale, sent the best wishes of the local community to local men and women who are serving on active duty in the U.S Military. Holiday letters and cards were sent to  30 members of the Army, Marine Corps., Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. The cards and letters were collected from Hillsdale and River Vale schools and residents as well as schools in Old Tappan and as far away as Ridgefield (due to a local resident who teaches there). Thousands of greetings were packaged. Anyone who has served in the military knows how nice it is to receive letters from people at home, especially during the holidays. A  copy of Pascack Press was included to provide them with recent news from home.

Post Commander Doug Frank thanks everyone who took the time to write a letter or send a card. He stated that the service members have commented on how much they enjoy reading and sharing the greetings, especially the ones from the school children.

Those who participated in boxing and shipping are: Phil Langner, Ron Kriegl, Bud Heymann, Phil Fonde, John McGoldrick, Mike Gela, Bob Abbadie, Joe Sgroi, Rich Correri, Vic Tuohy, Garry Pinke, and Doug Frank. Not pictured, Rich Correri, Zoltan Horvath, Eleanor Frank and Ray and Ellen Jean.

Post 162 Supports Hillsdale Helping Hillsdale

Even in very good economic times, there are local residents who need help. Hillsdale Helping Hillsdale  provides emergency support to those who qualify.  HHH can pay utility bills and other essential costs to meet immediate needs.  At this time of year, there can be more demand for this support due to high heating costs.  On December 10th, American Legion Post 162 of Hillsdale, Woodcliff Lake and Old Tappan made a donation of $1,000 to the fund to help support any veterans or families of veterans in need.  HHH is just another example of charitable volunteer organizations who support all in our community.
